School Advisory
Committee
(SAC). The SAC charter is to improve communications
between the military and civilian community
and Croughton Elementary School. SAC is projected
to meet monthly. Tentative dates and times
are located on the School Calendar and the
daily bulletin. As a reminder, the dates on
the long-range calendar are for planning purposes
only. Confirmation letters will be sent to
board members of the next meeting. Community
members wishing to raise issues with the SILT
should contact the SAC Representative. The
following is a synopsis of the Croughton SAC
By Laws.
SAC derives
its authority from Department of Defense Instruction
Number 1342.15, dated March 27, 1987. The principal
objective of the Croughton American School SAC
is to support the school by fostering communication
within the Croughton Community on school issues
and by advising the School Principal and Base
Commander in educational matters. The Committee,
together with the Principal and others, does
this by encouraging community participation
in school affairs, and by establishing an accessible
“coordinated process to address and resolve
issues at the lowest practical level”
[quote for the Instruction].
The Committee
gives advice and assistance to the school Principal
and Commander in many school matters within
the jurisdiction of the Commander and the Principal.
This includes educational policies, administrative
procedures, educational resources, instructional
programs, discipline procedures, pupil services,
food services, Command Policies, support services,
extra-curricular activities, transportation
policies, facility standards, and other items.
The Committee has no Authority to be involved
in DODDS personnel practices or policies, compensation
issues, or staff grievances. The Committee should
avoid becoming involved with scholarships, fundraising,
and financial matters that are normally the
preserve of PTAs booster clubs and other organizations.
SAC is composed
of two parents (elected), two professional school
staff (elected), a student (appointed), plus
three members. The liaison members consist of
the Principal, a Command representative, and
the teacher’s union representative. The
term of office is two years.
The voting
members of the Committee are the four elected
Members. The liaison members shall not vote.
Proxy voting and absentee ballots are not permitted.
