George
Washington's Birthday Visit |
|
Lawrence Washington
the grandfather, six times removed from George
Washington visits Croughton Elementary school.
He told students about life in 1500 at Sulgrave
Manor, the ancestral home of George Washington
here in England. |
Lawrence
Washington explains to the students the usefulness
of the clothing worn in the 1500s. |
 |
|
The feather in
his cap showed that he was rich. Although he would
not have been able to afford the ostrich feather
he is wearing today. It would have cost more than
his house, his lands and the 3 villages he owned.
|
| Lawrence Washington
explains that the plates children ate off of in
1500 were made of bread. Once the child finished
eating their food, then they ate the plate.
