George Washington's Birthday Visit

Lawrence Washington the grandfather, six times removed from George Washington visits Croughton Elementary school. He told students about life in 1500 at Sulgrave Manor, the ancestral home of George Washington here in England.

The feather in his cap showed that he was rich. Although he would not have been able to afford the ostrich feather he is wearing today. It would have cost more than his house, his lands and the 3 villages he owned.
Lawrence Washington explains that the plates children ate off of in 1500 were made of bread. Once the child finished eating their food, then they ate the plate.
